ABSTRACT

The nexus between food security and nutrition is a critical issue in low- and middle-income countries, where inadequate access to nutritious food leads to widespread malnutrition and associated health problems. This paper examines the interrelationship between food security and nutrition, highlighting the multifaceted nature of food security, which encompasses the availability, access, utilization, and stability of food supplies. It explores how food insecurity contributes to both undernutrition and overnutrition, resulting in a double burden of malnutrition. The analysis emphasizes the role of agricultural practices, economic policies, and social safety nets in enhancing food security and nutritional outcomes. Case studies from various countries illustrate successful interventions, such as biofortification, community gardens, and conditional cash transfer programs, that address both food security and nutrition. The paper concludes with policy recommendations aimed at integrating food security and nutrition strategies to achieve sustainable development goals and improve public health in low- and middle-income countries.
